PRIVATE HOUSE
REFURBISHMENTAND EXTENSION
2022 /2026
Located in Rothem, Limburg, this project reimagines an existing private house through a careful refurbishment and a two-story extension.
Driven by the evolving needs of a young family with three children, the design transforms a fragmented layout into a coherent and generous living environment. The intervention focuses on spatial clarity, functionality, and a stronger connection between the house and the garden.
At the heart of the transformation is the kitchen, repositioned as the central element of daily life. Once small and enclosed, it now forms an open spatial core, visually connecting the living room, dining area, and garden. The refurbishment optimizes the existing structure while introducing new functionality, including integrated storage, a generous bicycle shelter, and a new sanitary space on the ground floor. The technical performance of the house has been significantly upgraded through improved insulation and renewed building services, including floor heating.
The new extension provides additional capacity for contemporary family life. On the ground floor, it creates an open and light-filled living area with direct access to the garden. Above, it accommodates an additional bedroom and office space.
Currently under construction, the project is defined by its balance between refinement and functionality—transforming the existing house into a calm, open, and future-oriented family home.
